As a designer, Mr. Eshelman’s professional focus is on the programming, master planning, and architectural design of projects. His specialized expertise focuses on the conceptual design, schematic design and design development phases, as well as pre-design services, although he remains involved with projects throughout the construction document and construction phases to ensure that the design concept is executed faithfully. At the beginning of each project, he meets directly with clients, develops a series of drawings illustrating the design concept and returns to the client for review and comment. To ensure that all feasible solutions are explored at the outset, he often develops multiple design options. In addition to his design responsibilities, he devotes attention to business development, pursuing prospective clients and projects, preparing marketing documents and making presentations.

Mr. Eshelman is particularly adept at project layout and planning. His understanding of the way a client will use a facility enables him to design effectively and specifically for that client. His ability to ask the right questions and listen carefully to clients provides the insight vital to successful design solutions. During the design process, he takes into consideration issues such as access, circulation, security, adjacencies, privacy, accessibility and flexibility. Thus his design concepts are highly responsive to these pragmatic elements. This attention to aesthetic excellence, functional performance and financial responsibility is a trademark of his work.

With over 26 years in the profession, Mr. Eshelman’s design experience includes a significant number of hospitality, resort, governmental, commercial, condominium, academic, residential, and entertainment projects.
